Course Description

This 3 hour distance based course uses an evidenced based approach to educate the clinician who is utilizing or is considering utilizing Blood Flow Restriction Training for their patients in the clinical setting. This course dives into the up-to-date research regarding the efficacy and administration for blood flow restriction. It will guide the clinician on who may benefit from using blood flow restriction to enhance outcomes in the rehabilitation setting.

The content of this course is provided in PowerPoint documents and blood flow restriction exercise videos.

Evaluation

The content of this course is provided online reading material (PowerPoint documents) and short videos in which the learner’s participation (time) is actively tracked and logged. A minimum of three hours is required. There will be at least three questions for every hour of the class. The learner must receive a score of 80% of the total possible points and log at least three hours to receive credit for the course. Learners not achieving the pass rate will be directed to additional study by the instructor and allowed to re-take the examination.

2.0 Clinical Research: Rehabilitation model, specific pathology, and utility
3.0 Practical Application: Safety and Contraindications, recommended programming schemes, and video exercises

 

Objectives

1) Review current literature on the science behind blood flow restriction and its efficacy
2) Identify the specific conditions, indications and contraindications associated blood flow restriction training
3) Be able to effectively program exercises, sets and rep schemes, intensity, frequency, and cuff pressures for individual patients
