This a two-hour self-paced distance based course designed to assist health care providers in identifying and managing the medical legal risks associated with creating and maintaining appropriate medical records.

There will be a minimum of ten questions on an online examination at the end of the course materials to evaluate learner knowledge.

Course Schedule:

  • Hour One - Definition of Medical Records; Patient Information; SOAP Notes; Privacy and Confidentiality; Role of Insurance
  • Hour Two - Consents and Legal Requirements; Legal Ramification; Filing and Records Maintenance Requirements; Reports and Financial Records

  • Introduce healthcare providers to the standards of care regarding medical records
  • Identify types of medical records
  • Learn best practices in record keeping techniques

Requirements

120 minutes of study and the completion of an online examination with a score of at least 75%
