Course Description
This four-hour course provides Doctors of Chiropractic a comprehensive, evidence guided training program in oxygen physiology, equipment operation, emergency decision making, documentation, safety principles, and scope considerations.
The goal is simple. Give clinicians the competence and confidence to apply oxygen safely and appropriately when patient care requires it.
Evaluation
The content of this course is provided through reading material which the learner’s participation (time) is actively tracked and logged. A minimum of four hours is required. There will be at least three questions for every hour of the class. The learner must receive a score of 80% of the total possible points and log at least four hours to receive credit for the course. Learners not achieving the pass rate will be directed to additional study by the instructor and allowed to re-take the examination.

Objectives
- Explain the physiologic effects of altitude and hypoxia relevant to clinical and emergency settings.
- Identify indications, contraindications, and limitations of supplemental oxygen.
- Demonstrate correct setup, operation, and discontinuation of oxygen delivery systems.
- Differentiate between nasal cannula, simple mask, and non rebreather mask and select correct flow rates.
- Recognize red flags that require EMS activation and understand when oxygen may mask deterioration.
- Perform safe handling, storage, and maintenance of oxygen cylinders and related equipment.
- Apply evidence guided decision making to real world cases in chiropractic and athletic settings.
- Document oxygen administration accurately, including rationale and patient response.
- Understand state regulatory considerations and scope limitations for Doctors of Chiropractic.
